What's Available in Ericeira
Ericeira is a whitewashed fishing village 35 km north of Lisbon that was declared Europe's first — and the world's second — World Surfing Reserve in 2011. The reserve protects a 4 km stretch of coastline containing seven distinct breaks: Ribeira d'Ilhas (a long right-hand point), Coxos (one of Europe's heaviest reef breaks), Pedra Branca, Cave, Reef, São Lourenço, and Foz do Lizandro for beginners. The village retains its traditional Portuguese character despite a booming surf tourism scene, with fresh seafood restaurants and clifftop cafés overlooking the ocean.
